Applications

Buildings up to and including 12 metres:

• The product is suitable for use in any exposure zone where a residual cavity width of 120mm or greater is maintained. However, it's important to note that the use of the product does not eliminate the necessity of applying an external render coat or other appropriate finish in severe exposure zones where such application is customary.
• During construction, the minimum residual cavity width to be preserved must be 25mm. To meet this requirement, it may be necessary to specify a greater nominal residual cavity width at the design stage to accommodate inherent inaccuracies in the building process. For instance, the NHBC mandates a nominal residual cavity width of 80mm when adhering to normal standards of tolerance and workmanship.

Buildings over 12 metres in height: For buildings over 12 metres in height, a minimum residual clear cavity width of 120mm should be achieved, with the following specifications:

• Continuous cavity walls from ground level must not exceed a maximum height of 12 metres.
• Above 12 metres, continuous cavity walls should not surpass a maximum height of 7 metres.
• Breaks in the form of continuous horizontal cavity trays discharging to the outside are required in both cases.
• If the cavity width is reduced for structural reasons, such as by the intrusion of ring beams, a minimum residual cavity width of 25mm must still be maintained. Additionally, extra caution must be exercised with fixings and weatherproofing, such as the inclusion of a cavity tray.
