50mm HEXATHERM XDRAiN extruded polystyrene (XPS) insulation boards are specifically engineered for inverted roof systems. Featuring a specially designed drainage channel pattern on the underside, they efficiently direct rainwater away regardless of installation direction. This eliminates the requirement for a separate drainage layer, making them an excellent choice for green roofs, terraces and flat roof applications.
1. Prepare the Roof Deck Ensure the structural roof deck is clean, level and free from debris. The waterproof membrane should be fully installed, tested and protected before placing the insulation boards.
2. Lay the XDRAiN Insulation Boards Position the HEXATHERM 50mm XDRAiN XPS boards directly over the waterproofing layer. The integrated drainage channels on the underside are designed to operate in any board orientation, allowing efficient water runoff across the roof surface.
3. Install Additional Roof Layers For green roof applications, install a suitable root barrier (where required), followed by the appropriate filter layers, drainage materials, growing medium and planting system as specified within the roof design.
4. Ballast and Protection Complete the inverted roof build-up with the specified ballast, gravel or green roof system to provide protection against wind uplift and external loads.
5. Final Checks Inspect the completed installation to ensure boards are tightly butted, drainage paths remain unobstructed, and all roof layers have been fitted in accordance with the project specification.
Important: 50mm HEXATHERM XDRAiN should be installed in accordance with the project design, relevant UK building regulations and the manufacturer’s technical guidance.
