50mm Kingspan Kooltherm K5 External Wall insulation Board is a high-performance external wall insulation solution designed for masonry walls. Featuring a fibre-free, rigid thermoset phenolic core, it is ideal for external wall insulation systems and thin coat rendering applications.

50mm Kooltherm K5 boards are compatible with both traditional and lightweight polymer-modified renders. They can be installed externally on existing properties without disrupting occupants, as all work is completed from the outside.

As one of the thinnest external wall insulation board (EWI) solutions available, it is perfect for retaining internal space, making it ideal for buildings where internal insulation is not feasible.

The 50mm K5 board features mineral glass facings bonded to its insulation core during manufacturing and offers a certified thermal conductivity (lambda) of 0.022 W/mK. Its phenolic core provides exceptional thermal efficiency and is produced using a blowing agent with zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and low Global Warming Potential (GWP).

Kingspan Kooltherm K5 50mm meets Building Regulations by delivering outstanding thermal performance with reduced insulation thickness. It allows for higher insulation values with a thinner profile compared to alternatives such as EPS, XPS, and mineral wool.

Each board measures 1200mm x 600mm x 50mm, making it lightweight, easy to handle, and simple to install.

Application

Kooltherm K5 insulation boards should be installed following the manufacturer’s guidelines, which provide detailed instructions on design and application. For optimal results, we recommend securing the boards to the substrate (masonry or timber) using our Premium Basecoat along with metal screw mechanical fixings.

Once the boards are fixed to the external wall, they must be protected with an outer layer. This can be a mortar basecoat or a netting cover to shield the boards from excessive heat, moisture, and UV exposure. Finally, apply a protective render topcoat to complete the installation. What is Phenolic Insulation?

Kingspan K5 Phenolic insulation, such as our Kooltherm range, is among the most thermally efficient insulation materials available. It is produced through a specialized manufacturing process that creates a rigid thermoset foam core, sandwiched between two facing layers, such as low-emissivity composite foil.
